Vulcan receives positive signal from Landau city council
The Landau City Council voted in favor of development plan D12 at its meeting on 4 June. The zoning stipulated in development plan D12 for the “Am Messegelände Südost” industrial estate forms the basis for the construction of Vulcan’s integrated geothermal and lithium plant in Landau. The company has already submitted the corresponding building applications for the planned facilities. The city council can now review these with the help of the development plan and issue building permits. The approval was granted by a clear majority, which clearly demonstrates the supportive attitude of the city of Landau towards Vulcan’s innovative, combined project for renewable energy and ZERO CARBON LITHIUM™.
The planned geothermal plant will enable the city of Landau to use green energy for both municipal district heating supply and climate-neutral energy supply for industry and commerce. “The city council’s decision represents a significant step towards a sustainable and climate-friendly future for Landau and the region. Vulcan is looking forward to working with the city of Landau to drive this pioneering project forward and make an important contribution to the energy transition. The approval of the development plan D12 gives us a solid basis for the permits for the geothermal and lithium plant and positions us well for the start of construction in line with our project schedule,” says Vulcan’s Chief Development Officer, Thorsten Weimann.
Vulcan’s project will result in numerous benefits for the citizens of Landau and the region, which are recognized by the positive decision of the city council. Vulcan’s goal is to generate climate-neutral heat for more than one million people in the Upper Rhine Graben by 2030 and thus actively support the German government’s goal of initiating 100 additional geothermal projects by 2030. “The population in Landau and companies in the region will benefit not only from a base load-capable, but also from a sustainable, climate-friendly heat supply,” adds Weimann.
