Environmental education at the geothermal power plant – POLLICHIA Landau visits Natürlich Insheim

Around 40 interested members of POLLICHIA, an association for nature research and environmental education founded in Bad Dürkheim in 1840, visited the Naturally Insheim geothermal power plant on August 7.

The geothermal power plant has been generating climate-neutral electricity from renewable energy using state-of-the-art technology since 2012. This is fed into the grid locally and is equivalent to supplying 8,000 households. Work is currently underway to modernize and expand energy extraction so that the municipality can also benefit from the advantages of CO2-neutral heat in the future.

During a presentation followed by a tour of the geothermal power plant, visitors were also able to find out how Vulcan’s team of experts extracts lithium chloride from the 160 degree Celsius thermal water in the Upper Rhine Graben.

Transparent information was also provided on the company’s future plans for heat, electricity and lithium production along the Upper Rhine Graben.
